Its a photo blog, composed of pictures shot by me. The name is the botanical name of Henna plant which is widely used by Indians for various purposes and it signifies colours!
This is a 162 year old Co-educational Residential Public School situated in the Simla Hills at Himachal Pradesh! I owe a great lot to this School as this was the place which taught me the art of 'self discovery'! I have long and cherished memories of people, places and events of this School.
This is where I picked up elementary techniques of my photographic skills and got exposed to many adventurous activities!
The route to Charang Ghatti was not easy one[Transhimalayan Trek- July 1997, by the students and staff of Sanawar], we had to overcome different terrains, many obstacles, lack of water, long treks and some times no clues about the distance and direction.
But most memorable thing about this expedition was the 'never give in' attitude of the team. Students were ready to go through any kind of difficulties and were adventurous!
The organizers did did not do a proper recci of the terrain and route and very unsure of many things!
Here are two 'heroes': Milon 'n' Lennon. Milon would like to be called as papa's boy and is more or less like me - careless, restless, very sentimental (inside) and loves momma's food! Lennon doesn't like to be called as moma's boy though he discretely makes her feel he is the one! Very diplomatic, he is more towards his mother - caring, loving, always shows his concern and competes with his brother to be the 'papa's boy'.
But when they are together they test every nerve of ours! When they sit for food they have too many things to talk about, study time they have to finsih 'other' important works, on bed they have all lot of jokes to share and laugh loudly till late night and in free time they have their games to play in the 'living room' and make their mom to scream!
[1998 April] During the height gain exercise for the advanced mountaineering course at NIM Uttarkashi, we attemped Draupadi ki Danda peak[Himalayas]. We could not make it to the summit due very heavy snow conditions! [We had heavy snow fall on previous days!].
We had a tough time negotiating through snow covered crevasses and the slops that had almost 6 feet snow! This snap was taken at a height of approximately 19000 feet when we decided to return to our advanced base camp!
Though the place was fully snow covered it gets very hot in sun! We need to wear dark & fully covered goggles to prevent 'snow blindness'.
This snap was taken in the year 1997 when a group of boys and girls from Lawrence School Sanawar completed the Transhimalayan trek - The Kinner Kailash Parikarma as a part of the sesqui centenary celebrations of Lawrence Sanawar.
We had a tough time completing this trek when we crossed two passes in Kinnaur region. This snap was taken after crossing The Charang Ghati pass [5249 m]. We completed the 130km trek in 14 days!
This picture was shot at the Barne Hall window in Lawrence School Sanawar, while this girl was taking rest after a dance practice. [1999] I do not remember her name now, but remember her smile when I showed her this picture.
This snap was taken in the year 2000 while I was shooting butterflies. I followed this one quite sometime and for my luck it settled down on this Marigold as if posing for me. [This foto is scanned from the original]
This picture of Heliconia was taken for a photo exhibition at Sarala Birla Academy, Bangalore [2007]. While taking the snap of various flowers I noticed the shape of this flower which reminded me of the Mudras in Indian Classical Dances!
This foto dates back to 1998, I met this lady while I was shooting some wild flowers in Himachal. When I asked her for a snap in my broken Hindi, she readily sat down on a railing stone and wished me [at least I thought so]. I couldn't save this photo[hard copy properly] and when I got a chance to scan I did this first.
She is Megan, when I met her first time, she was so reluctant to come near to me, but always wanted me to take her snaps. She stands away and poses for the foto and when I click she gives me that beautiful smile!
